The SplitR is a new gadget due to launch on Kickstarter that offers a new way for iPhone users to get Auracast on their devices.
So far, Apple has eschewed Auracast despite switching to Bluetooth 6.0 for its latest devices, and all iPhones since version 14 have had Bluetooth 5.3. This means the phones are Bluetooth LE Audio-capable, and a firmware update would allow users to access Auracast features.
The workaround has been the FlooGoo and similar dongles that plug into the bottom of the phone. The trouble with this is that if you want to use Auracast and listen to the audio via wired headphones, or insert another device, such as an external microphone.
If you want to use the dongle and charge the phone at the same time … ultimately, the problem with having just one input/output port at the bottom of the phone makes multitasking difficult.
There is a new solution on the cards, and we are grateful to The Verge for highlighting it in its round-up of CES 2026.
Atitan’s splitR doesn’t use a dongle to connect; instead, it uses the MagSafe charger on the back of the phone.
What is the splitR and what does it do?
Made by Atitan, and part of its R series, the splitR is described as a compact, portable audio hub that can be connected to multiple devices, including speakers, car audio systems and wired systems. It supports both 3.5mm aux and RCA connections.
Using smart pairing technology, the splitR remembers the devices it has connected to. Its ConnectR app – available on iPhones and Android devices – can be used to control audio and manage connected devices.
The app allows people to queue music from a range of streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music. Friends can be invited to join in and add their own songs to the playlist … hear the same music at the same time – another Auracast benefit. It is also possible to see what each other is listening to, via the friends list.

The ConnectR app also shows which devices the splitR is connected to and manages them.
For those who don’t want to use the app, there are buttons on the back of the splitR device that let you control it as well.
As the splitR can be used as an Auracast transmitter or receiver, users can connect the device to speakers with an aux input, and can then either transmit the sound from the legacy device connected to the speakers, or stream from the puck to the speakers.
Atitan says the range of the splitR as a transmitter/receiver is around 30 metres in optimal conditions.
Round and looking a bit like an ice hockey puck, it will be available in two colours: Ghost White or Midnight Black.
Its battery life should provide around 12 hours of continuous transmission or 16 hours of continuous reception on a single charge, and it can be topped up via its USB-C charging point.
How much is the splitR, and how do I get the device?
Atitan says the splitR is a multi-functional smart hub built for next-gen connected audio environments and can upgrade existing speakers, bringing Auracast compatibility to favourite sound systems, without the need for a costly upgrade.
The device has yet to be made available; instead, it will launch on Kickstarter.
It will cost $99. No details are yet available on reward tiers.
A second device, the splitR+, will be $149, and Atitan says it is “built for professionals and serious audio enthusiasts, it delivers advanced device management, extended range connectivity, and professional-grade audio processing for the most demanding setups”. This can support up to eight connections.
The ConnectR app will be made available from the summer on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Those who join the Kickstarter campaign can also apply to join the testing programme. A note on Atitan’s website reads: “If you are interested in joining the testing program, please purchase a SplitR™ and submit a waitlist request with the email address you used to purchase and we will contact you when testing is available for you.”
